Introduction to silicone production process

Hits: 289 img

Silicone is a very common material with good elasticity, tensile resistance, wear resistance, and other characteristics, so it is widely used in various industries. So, how is silicone made?

The first step in the production of silicone is to prepare silicone rubber raw materials. The main components of silicone rubber are silane (such as methyltrisilane), siloxane (such as methylsiloxane), diluent, and crosslinking agent. After mixing these ingredients in a certain proportion, they are heated and stirred to obtain silicone rubber raw materials.

Next, shape the silicone rubber raw material. There are many molding methods, including extrusion molding and injection molding. Extrusion molding is the process of extruding silicone rubber raw materials into the desired shape through an extruder, followed by vulcanization. Injection molding is the process of heating and melting silicone rubber raw materials, injecting them into a mold through an injection molding machine, cooling them to obtain the desired shape, and then vulcanizing them.

Sulfurization is an important step in the production of silicone. Vulcanization refers to heating the formed silicone into a heating box to cure it. The time and temperature of vulcanization are crucial and usually need to be adjusted according to the type and requirements of silicone.

Finally, proceed with subsequent processing. After the completion of silicone production, subsequent treatments such as removing surface oxide skin and polishing are also required.

In short, the production of silicone is a very complex process that requires multiple steps. Each step requires very careful operation and adjustment in order to produce high-quality silicone products.
