Phenyl silicone rubber used in aerospace materials has excellent radiation degradation resistance, excellent ozone resistance, and excellent thermal cycling resistance. It has obvious advantages because it can withstand extreme temperatures in space and maintain good flexibility at very low temperatures (other materials may become hard and fracture), and its elastic properties can suppress the adverse effects of emission vibration. And the performance changes encountered during space flight, such as temperature changes, can lead to surface shrinkage or hinder the propagation of electromagnetic waves and subatomic particles, while phenyl silicone rubber has good resistance to high and low temperatures, which can effectively solve this problem.

Although radiation in space can cause changes in the properties of space materials similar to thermal aging, some special organic silicon materials, such as phenyl silicone rubber, have excellent radiation resistance and are suitable for use under radiation conditions while still maintaining good mechanical properties.
